American Government

Description: This is a high school level course in American Government and is broken into three parts. Students will explore the principles, ideals, and inner-workings that inform and influence the nation and examine the Declaration, the Articles of Confederation, and the Constitution in detail. Students will learn about the statesmen who founded the nation and how their principles and ideals guided them through the difficult issues of their day. Students will use Alexis de Tocqueville’s Democracy in America to learn about what has made the American “experiment” so successful and how liberty and self-rule may be maintained. This class is worth a 1/2 a high school credit in Government, Civics, or as an Elective.

Grade Level: 9-12 (ages 14-18)

Prerequisites: This course assumes that the student has already completed a basic course of study in American history.

Required Materials: Declaration Statesmanship reading book and Declaration Statesmanship course book, both by Richard Ferrier and Andrew Seeley. Students will also need a USB headset microphone (built-in microphones also work).
