Description: This class is an introduction to cells and cellular processes, genetics, taxonomy, microbiology, the classification of animals, and study of life in general. This course does include laboratory components. Labs include at-home experiments that utilize common household objects, as well as virtual laboratories and dissections. Topics covered are cell biology, genetics, taxonomy, microbiology, botany, zoology, and ecology. This class is worth 1 high school credit in Science.
Labs: This class uses 11 experiments, including 4 dissections (see required materials below). More information will be provided to the students.
Grade Level: 9-12 (students must be at least in 9th grade)
Prerequisites: None
Required Materials: Modern Biology text. The following dissection materials will also be requried, but DO NOT purchase until March: Introductory Dissection Kit (Grasshopper, Earthworm, Frog), Perch Specimen, and Perch Dissection Guide. The only other lab materials required will be a flower and some M&Ms. Students will also need a USB headset microphone (built-in microphones also work).
