Guerber U.S. History

Description: History is an intellectual pillar for students seeking a thorough education. Through the study of history, students have the opportunity to dialogue with the greatest minds from the greatest cultures of preceding civilizations. This course is an introductory middle school U.S. History course, surveying Colonial American history to current events in the United States. Class discussions will include three major components: the history of ideas during this time period, biographical studies of important individuals, and an exploration of key cultural developments. We will explore themes such as the right to claim power and govern others, the role of religion in society, and the common elements of long-lasting cultures. Students will need to devote 45 minutes per day for this class. The grade is based on completing the assigned readings, reading quizzes and a few other projects.

Grade Level: 6-7

Prerequisites: Students should be relatively strong readers, familiar with English grammar, able to write grammatically complete sentences, and be prepared to write the short essays mentioned above.

Required Materials: Guerber's Story of the Thirteen Colonies & The Great Republic, 200 Questions About American History (Student and Teacher Guide), and Everything You Need to Know About American History Homework. Some primary sources will be provided online. Students will also need a USB headset microphone (built-in microphones also work).
