Narrative Stage

Description: A continuation of Classical Composition following the Fable Stage. In the Narrative Stage students continue to build invention skills as well as the ability to engage the imagination of an audience. The goal of the class is to master the structures of thought that originate narratives and learn to create recognition by using figures of description. Students will develop the ability to communicate the same idea using a variety of words, sentence structures, and acquire flexibility in perspective. The grade is based on participation, the Nine Narrative Components submissions, and final draft submissions. In-class typing is minimal for younger students and the instructor frequently uses microphones.

Grade Level: 5-6

Prerequisites: Completion of Fable Stage. Students should also possess a very basic knowledge of English grammar (e.g. subject, basic verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, direct object, what a complete sentence looks like). Students normally complete their work, including the final draft, in their workbook. Then, students will type out the final draft, proof it, then upload it to the course page. If a student is younger and doesn't know how to type, or struggles with it, then we encourage parents to do this for their student.

Required Materials: Classical Composition: Narrative Student. Please do not purchase the Teacher Guide. Students will also need a USB headset (built-in microphones also work).
