Louis Schuler

Louis is the Music and Choir Director at Hope Lutheran Church in Shawnee, Kansas. He began singing Latin in choirs at the age of seven and has been singing in Latin ever since. He has taught Latin for over twenty-five years. For many of those years he taught Latin and music as an interdisciplinary study and loves to share the beauty of singing in Latin with his students. He completed his Ph.D. in Historical Performance Practice from Washington University in St. Louis where he spent many hours studying various Latin treatises from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. He completed course work for an M.A. in Exegetical Theology at Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis where he studied Greek and Hebrew. Besides Latin and music, he has taught classes in theology, Greek, logic, and rhetoric. His wife, Kim, is a fabulous musician and is the organist at Hope Lutheran Church. Louis and Kim have been working together in church music for thirty-seven years. They homeschooled their two children through high school. Louis loves to backpack in the mountains, especially with his son. One of his favorite activities now is playing with his toddler grandson.
