PreCalculus

Description: Precalculus takes various parts of Geometry and Algebra and combines and expands on them to prepare the student for Calculus.  Students should take this course if they are planning to advance to Calculus next year.  Expectations for performance will be in accordance with that goal.

Grade Level: 11-12 (ages 16-18)

Prerequisites: Successful completion of standard courses in Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II (B average).

Required Materials: PreCalculus by Ron Larson (7th edition). Students will also need a USB headset (built-in microphones also work). Some kind of scanner will be needed. Conventional scanners are fine, but if parents have a smart phone, they can convert pictures taken with a smart phone to PDF documents. Then it can be emailed directly to the instructor. Students must have one of the following graphing calculators for the second semester: TI-83, TI-83+, TI-84, or TI-84+. We also recommend that students purchase a tablet (here is an example, others will work), for working problems in class. If you have a device like an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil, or a Surface Pro 3, then you should not need a tablet like the one linked above. Others have simply used their computer’s mouse.
